We are delighted to invite you to attend the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat's Sixth World Congress - Cities in the Third Millennium - in Melbourne Australia. This is the first time Congress will be held in the Southern Hemisphere and it is a very appropriate event for Melbourne, the birth place of Federation, as Australia celebrates 100 years of national government. The Congress program includes many internationally renowned speakers, invited to share their experience and to generate debate. This is a big program. It will deal with big ideas on a range of topics in two concurrent and specific subject streams, one on Urban Habitat and the other on Tall Buildings. The final day of plenary sessions will bring these subject streams together and provide an opportunity to reach conclusions on the future direction of CTBUH.
Throughout the Congress, there will also be ample opportunity for registrants to present poster papers and participate in discussion on specific areas of interest. CTBUH Topical Groups Workshops, at which all registrants are welcome, and reports from Regional Vice-Presidents will further the development work of the Council. Hot Topic sessions will provide additional opportunities for in-depth interaction and ensure the currency of the debate.
A range of social events to provide for informal networking includes happy hours, a Congress welcoming reception and Banquet. Daily tours are programmed for accompanying persons and delegates to places of interest and cultural importance.
Melbourne enjoys a fine reputation as one of the most livable cities in the world, renowned for cultural activities; arts; theatre; buildings, urban design and landscape of excellence (both old and new), gourmet food and a wide variety of sports and recreational opportunities. The Congress will occur at a time of year when Melbourne enjoys the arcadian delights of late summer weather and hosts the first of the 2001 season Formula One Grand Prix.
The Congress is designed as an event of difference provoking an insight to the world we live in now and the one for which we must prepare ourselves. It is an opportunity not to be missed. Come and join us: you can be assured of a very warm welcome
