AN INVITATION FROM THE CONFERENCE CHAIR
On behalf of the Conference Organising Committee, I warmly invite you to participate in the joint conference of the Australian Association of Social Workers,The International Federation of Social Workers (Asia Pacific Region), the Asia and Pacific Association for Social Work Education and the Australian Association for Social Work and Welfare Education. The theme of the conference will build on the recent regional IFSW/APASWE Conferences which focused on enhanced social integration, and the 25th AASW Conference which addressed the way social work can influence outcomes in changing social and economic contexts. The conference will provide an opportunity for practitioners and educators to join in exploring, debating and addressing critical issues facing the profession in the next century. The Conference Organising Committee has been delighted with the interest shown in the conference to date and now invites the submission of abstracts for the presentation of papers, posters and workshops. We look forward to welcoming you to Brisbane next September.

WELCOME FROM JAN HINSON
CONFERENCE CONVENOROn behalf of the Queensland Branch of the AASW and the Conference Organising Committee, I am delighted to welcome national and international delegates to the first joint Conference in Australia of the AASW, IFSW, APASWE and AASWWE. This Conference offers a unique opportunity for Social Workers to interact in an international forum, within a supportive networking environment. It will enable us to focus national and international attention on the consequences and implications of social exclusion and provide strategic discussion for future management. In facing this challenge and building on the last IFSW/APASWE and AASW conference themes, let us identify the issues of significance to Social Work, agree to address them, and celebrate our achievements. Above all else, let this conference be about hope for the future and let us enjoy each other's thoughts, company and energy for a few days in September 1999.
See you in Brisbane!
INVITATION FROM IMELDA DODDS
VICE PRESIDENT IFSW ASIA PACIFIC REGIONDear Colleague, I invite you to join with colleagues from around our region to attend the 1999 IFSW / APASWE Asia Pacific Region Conference. The conference theme, Promoting Inclusion - Redressing Exclusion is highly relevant to the world and region in which we live and practice. The impact of racial tensions, globalisation and the effect of the economic downturn in our regions represent but a few very significant challenges. On a daily basis, social workers throughout our region will be working with the effects of these issues. Conferences such as this provide us with an important opportunity to discuss issues of common importance and some which may be unique to our region, or indeed country, but may resonate for social workers elsewhere.
Please join your colleagues from throughout the Asia Pacific in Brisbane.
INVITATION FROM NGIAM TEE LIANG
PRESIDENT APASWEIn many Asia-Pacific countries, 1999 holds out as either a year of continuing economic crisis or a year of cautious hope as the crisis appears to be bottoming out and recovery is slowly occurring. Whatever the situation, the scope and scale of our social work challenge to fight social exclusion in all forms, so as to enhance the worth and dignity of all for societal betterment, remains equally pertinent and important. Colleagues, in this regard, I warmly invite you to join your regional social work fraternity at this timely conference to sharpen and reinforce our professional commitment as educators and practitioners, as we enter a new millennium. Also, this is one of the few main avenues for us to come together to share, learn and network with each other. So, see you in Brisbane!
INVITATION FROM PETER CAMILLERI
PRESIDENT AASWWEThe Australian Association for Social Work and Welfare Education is pleased to be joining with the AASW, the IFSW (Asian-Pacific Region) and the APASWE in inviting practitioners and academics to this Conference. The issues facing Australia and the Asian Pacific Region require social workers to develop creative solutions to poverty, violence and the effects of globalisation. The Conference theme of promoting inclusion and redressing exclusion reaffirms social work's historic link to social justice. For social workers, practitioners and academics, the challenges of the new millennium are both exciting and daunting. Welcome.
INVITATION FROM JO GAHA
PRESIDENT A.A.S.W.It is with great pleasure that I, on behalf of the Australian Association of Social Workers, invite national and international delegates to attend our first AASW International Conference. As you can see from the other invitations, it is a joint IFSW, APASWE, AASW, AASWWE conference which makes the event a very special conference for all of us in the Asia-Pacific region. It provides a rare opportunity for Australian social workers who have not been able to travel to other international conferences to meet colleagues from other parts of the world. The discussion and networking which can occur when social workers from different parts of the world get together is a rare and special experience that allows us to see our common values and understandings while appreciating difference and diversity. I look forward to seeing you in Brisbane in 1999.
