BRISBANEBrisbane is a dynamic, sophisticated city and Australia's fastest growing capital.
Lying in the south-east corner of Queensland, it enjoys a subtropical climate and is at its best in September. With bustling open-air markets, busy pavement cafes, and an abundance of parks and open spaces. Brisbane provides a relaxed outdoor lifestyle.
September is Spring in Brisbane and temperatures range from 14 to 24 degrees Celsius. Although the weather is often sunny, Spring is full of surprises - you may need a jacket at night.
CONFERENCE THEME
Promoting Inclusion - Redressing Exclusion
The Social Work Challenge
Social work has retained a core interest in promoting a just and inclusive society. As we enter the new millennium, economic and social forces at a local, national and international level increase the risks of marginalisation and exclusion of individuals, groups and societies. The conference will explore the causes and consequences of social exclusion, and the manner in which social work can confront and redress social exclusion in the many domains of its practice. The tensions between inclusionary and exclusionary forces in social work practice, social processes, social programs and social programs will be examined.
Core areas to be addressed will include:
Experiences of social exclusion. Social worker's role in redressing social exclusion in the local, national and/or international context. Social work and social exclusion: agendas for action. Economics and cultural globalisation: the challenge for inclusionary practice. Urban and rural disadvantage: new geographics of social exclusion. Intergrating research, policy and practice - linked solutions for linked problems. Indigenising social work within the global context. Innovations in social work practice. To reflect the diversity of social work, we are seeking contributions from all fields which engage with the theme. Papers may have a practice, management, research, policy or educational focus, and presenters are encouraged to consider the Conference theme in relation to current, preventative and developmental work in the local and international arenas.
