 Periodontics Scientific Programme - Keynote Speaker Dr Gary C. Armitage is the R. Earl Robinson Distinguished Professor of Periodontology at University of California San Francisco. He received his DDS in 1966, a Certificate in Periodontology in 1971, and an MS in Oral Biology in 1973, all from UCSF. Dr. Armitage has been a Clinical Associate at the National Institute of Dental & Craniofacial Research (NIDCR) in Bethesda, Maryland, a Visiting Research Scientist at the University of Michigan, and Visiting Professor at the University of Texas Health Science Center in San Antonio. He has numerous publications and has given presentations to many research groups and periodontal societies throughout the United States, Europe, South America, and Asia. He has been awarded the coveted "Distinction in Teaching Award" by the Academic Senate of the University of California. Dr Armitage is a Fellow of the American Academy of Periodontology. In 2000 he received the Gold Medal Award of the American Academy of Periodontology for his contributions to the field of periodontics.

 Dr Joseph Kan completed his Prosthodontics training and Master degree in Implant Dentistry from Loma Linda University School of Dentistry (LLUSD) in 1995. He served as the clinical director for the Center for Prosthodontics and Implant Dentistry, LLUSD from 1996 to 1998 and is currently Associate Professor in the Department of Restorative Dentistry. He also maintains a private practice limited to Prosthodontics and Implant Surgery. Dr Kan is a member of the Editorial Board for the Journal of Prosthetic Dentistry. He is also the Periodontology/Implantology Section Editor for the Practical Procedures & Aesthetic Dentistry. Dr Kan has lectured worldwide and had published numerous articles on refereed journals and chapters in textbooks. Dr Kan is a member of the Academy of Osseointegration, American College of Prosthodontists, American Academy of Fixed Prosthodontics and an Associate member of the Pacific Coast Society of Prosthodontists.
 Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery - Keynote SpeakerProfessor Mark McGurk is currently the Professor and Head of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery GKT Dental Institute London. He has published in excess of 70 articles and authored numerous texts in oral and maxillofacial surgery. Professor McGurk has also held numerous examination posts and is currently the Editor of the British Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Professor McGurk graduated with a BDS, University of Sheffield 1976, MB BS university of Sheffield 1984. He is currently a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, as well as a Fellow Dental Surgeon Royal College of Surgeons. He has a diploma of Otolaryngology and a Doctorate of Medicine University of Sheffield. He has been awarded numerous academic prizes and awards including the Bowdler Henry Scholarship and the Paul Toller Research Prize. His current interests include an interest in head and neck oncology with extensive experience in microvascular reconstruction. He has also developed an approach to salivary neoplasms and calculi, which has led to dramatic changes in their subsequent management. The approach of minimally invasive therapy has completely changed the management of salivary calculi at Guys Hospital.
 Professor Yu Guang-yan is Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dean of Peking University School of Stomatology, Beijing, China. He is the member of the Standing Committee of Chinese Stomatological Association, Vice Chairman of Chinese Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Chairman of the Division of Salivary Gland Diseases. He is particularly interested in oral and maxillofacial oncology and diseases of salivary glands. He has published 215 papers in national and international journals and 20 reference books or textbooks as editor, editor-in-chief or chapter contributor.
 Professor Paul Abbott is Head of the University of Western Australia's School of Dentistry, Director of the Oral Health Centre of WA, and practices part-time as an Endodontist. He has lectured throughout Australia and 22 countries, has published 50 journal articles, 4 textbook chapters and 42 articles for newsletters. He is President of the International Federation of Endodontic Associations (IFEA) and serves on 6 journal Editorial Boards.
 Caroline Acton is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon who has been part of the Royal Brisbane Hospital Head and Neck Clinic for 13 years. She also runs a private practice in Brisbane and holds the position of Adjunct Associate Professor with the University of Queensland. She has clinical interests in the oral effects of radiotherapy and also injury prevention.
 Professor Daniel L.K. Cheung is the Chair Professor in oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMS) and Associate Dean (research and discovery) of the Faculty of Dentistry, The University of Hong Kong. Professor Cheung attained several professional advanced dental qualifications from Scotland, Ireland and Australia (FDSRCPS, FFDRCS and FRACDS) and specialist degrees in oral and maxillofacial surgery [FRACDS(OMS), FCDSHK(OMS)] from Australia and Hong Kong. Professor Cheung gained a PhD in oral and maxillofacial surgery from the University of Hong Kong in 1996. In recognition of his academic contribution, he received Honorary Professor appointment in mainland China from ten universities and also received four additional Honorary Professorships from universities in Thailand and India. Professor Cheung is currently the associate editor of the International Journal of OMS and the assistant editor-inchief of the Chinese Journal of Oral Implantology. The main research interest of Professor Cheung is on distraction osteogenesis, reconstructive surgery and maxillofacial implantology. In his career, he has published over 115 papers and 150 abstracts.
 Dr Bernadette Drummond is a specialist in paediatric dentistry who is involved in active clinical practice, teaching and research. Her research focus at present is investigating the short and longer term outcomes for children who receive comprehensive dental care under general anaesthetic.
 Dr Richard Logan completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery degree in 1992 and in 1997 completed a Master of Dental Surgery degree in Oral Pathology. In 1999 he was awarded the Inaugural Princess of Wales, Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons Research Fellowship and as part of that, undertook research into oral side effects of head and neck oncology treatment. He is currently the Head of Oral Pathology at the Dental School of the University of Adelaide. He is a Consultant Oral Pathologist in the Division of Tissue Pathology at the Institute of Medical and Veterinary Science and a Consultant in the Special Needs Unit of the Adelaide Dental Hospital. He also works in private practice specialising in clinical oral pathology.
 Associate Professor Robert Love is Head of Department, Department of Oral Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences, University of Otago School of Dentistry. He graduated BDS (Otago) in 1983 and subsequently gained a MDS in Endodontics, PhD and FRACDS. He teaches endodontics and coordinates the General Dental Practice year of the BDS curriculum. He is actively involved in endodontic research and has published extensively. He is involved in numerous organizations including past President and Editor NZ Endodontic Society, Scientific Editor of the NZ Dental Journal, on the Editorial Boards of Dental Traumatology and the Journal of Endodontics, and holds positions in the IADR and RACDS. Robert is a member of the Dental Council of New Zealand and Dentists Board and holds the education portfolio. Robert has lectured and presented courses in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, USA and Europe.
 Associate Professor Marc Tennant commenced his academic pursuits in the mid 1990's following completion of his dental training and doctorate studies at The University of Western Australia(UWA). Since then he has developed a research career in Rural and Remote Oral Health through UWA, becoming the inaugural director of Australia's first centre devoted to this issue. During the late 1990's he was also a key part of the development of the Oral Health Centre of Western Australia.Mark has published over 75 national and international journal articles and is currently an examiner for the College (primaries) as well as inaugural clinical dean of the new dental school at Griffith University.
 Dr Graeme Ting graduated from the University of Otago in 1989 and obtained his Masters degree in Hospital Dentistry in 1999. In 2002, Dr Ting became a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, being one of the inaugural Fellows in Special Needs Dentistry. Dr Ting has a special interest in the dental management of medically compromised patients, in particular, the treatment of patients with neurological impairment.
 Professor Martin Tyas is a Professor in the School of Dental Science, University of Melbourne. He has published over 120 papers on dental materials. He is a Council member of the College, a member of various Australian Dental Association committees, of the Medical Devices Evaluation Committee of the Therapeutic Goods Administration and is Vice-chairman of the Science Commission of the FDI World Dental Federation.
The Young Lecturer Award (YLA) of the College is a lecture competition held at Convocation, in which members of the profession who have been qualified for less than 10 years can present a paper. The lecturer does not have to be a College member, and a maximum of seven entrants can be accommodated in the Convocation programme. ICMS Travel, as the official housing bureau for the Convocation, has been able to secure discounted accommodation rates at selected hotels. Reservations need to be made before Wednesday, 8 September 2004. The room rates are per night and do not include breakfast unless otherwise specified. Accommodation will be allocated in order of receipt of bookings and payment. Each delegate should complete a separate accommodation form, a clear photocopy of the form is acceptable.ARRIVAL TIME Please indicate on your registration form your estimated time of arrival to the hotel. Check-in time is usually between 13:00 to 15:00.
