National Privacy Conference

Hotel Sofitel, Melbourne, Australia

November 26 - 27 2001

MESSAGE FROM THE PREMIER OF VICTORIA

On behalf of the Victorian Government I am delighted to invite you to Melbourne to participate in the National Privacy Conference, Privacy - Make It Your Business.

The conference coincides with the implementation of landmark Victorian legislation enacted by my Government, which relates to sensitive handling of personal information by both government
agencies and private organisations. The Victorian Health Records Act 2001 provides all Victorians with an enforceable right of access to private sector health records. This complements access already
available in the public sector.

The conference will provide a unique opportunity for service providers, researchers, policy makers, academics, business and the community to come together in a spirit of partnership, to exchange ideas and their experience of best practice.

I am particularly pleased to announce that a number of renowned international and national privacy practitioners will be participating in the conference to share the challenges and rewards of their experience in privacy protection.

Enjoy the conference!

Steve Bracks
Premier of Victoria

INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE

I am pleased that the Victorian Department of Human Services is sponsoring the National Privacy Conference, Privacy - Make It Your Business. The recent enactment of the Victorian Health Records Act (2001) and the Information Privacy Act (2000) is evidence of the importance that the Victorian
Government and community place upon the proper management of, and access to, personal information.

Information privacy is important to the community and to the activities of the Department of Human Services and its funded service providers. The conference will provide a valuable opportunity for all stakeholders to further develop appropriate responses to privacy issues in a collaborative and supportive environment.

We look forward to welcoming you to Melbourne in November.

Patricia Faulkner
Secretary to the Department of Human Services (Victoria)
