Professor Robert Ord
Professor Robert Ord Professor of Dentistry, Head, Division of Oral-Maxillofacial Surgery, University of Maryland MedicineBorn in Cardiff, Wales, UK. Trained in Dentistry at Kings College Hospital London, England 1966 - 1970 trained in Medicine, Cardiff 1972 - 1977. Dr. Ord is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeon of Edinburg, a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and has an MS in Oral Pathology from the University of Maryland. Dr. Ord came to the University of Maryland in 1989. Dr. Ord is the Chief of Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at the University of Maryland Medical Systems and an Associate professor at the Greenebaum Cancer Center. Clinical Interests My main interest is in surgical oncology of the head and neck, that is, management of tumors of the head and neck. Most of my surgeries are related to cancer of the oral cavity, jaws, sinuses and salivary glands. In addition I have an interest in benign tumors of this region and reconstruction of the jaws and oral cavity.Research Interests I have an ongoing interest in basic science and clinical research in head and neck malignancy. I am also active in chemoprevention trials for premalignant lesions.Teaching I have a heavy commitment to graduate teaching at the residency and Fellowship level. In addition, I lecture widely at National and International Meetings. I am an Examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburg, and the University of Singapore.Publications I have published over 70 Scientific papers, 15 plus book chapters and I am currently finishing a book on "Oral Cancer". I am on the Editorial Board of the European Journal of Craniomaxillofacial Surgery and the International Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Professor Stephen Porter, PhD, MD, FDS RCS, FDS RCSE
 Head of Unit, Oral Medicine and Special Needs Dentistry, Eastman Dental Institute, Professor of Oral Medicine University of London Stephen Porter qualified in Biochemistry (1979) and Dentistry (1982) at the University of Glasgow. He subsequently gained his Doctor of Philosophy (1987), Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (1991) and Doctor of Medicine (1993) at the University of Bristol, and Fellowships in Dental Surgery of the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh (1987) and England (1987). He was Lecturer in Oral Medicine in the University of Bristol (1991-3) before coming to The Eastman as Senior Lecturer in Oral Medicine. Professor Porter is currently Head of the Oral Medicine Unit. He is Honorary Consultant at University College London Hospitals. Clinical Expertise Professor Porter's clinical expertise is mainly Oral Medicine, especially ulceration, dysplastic lesions and oral aspects of dermatological and rheumatological disease. Research Interests His main research interests are in virology and immunology in relation to oral disease, in particular the oral and dental aspects of Hepatitis C virus, aetiological considerations of Human Herpesvirus 8 and the aetiology and management of oral lichen planus.
