Abstract for presentation at National Medicines Symposium 2006

Informing benefits and harms

  • Prof Lloyd Sansom, Pharmaceutical Benefits Advisory Committee, Australia
  • Over the last 10 years the issue of the rights of individuals to information on the medicines which they take has been vigorously debated. In Australia this has been exemplified by the introduction of Consumer Medicine Information(CMI) and the debate on lack of detailed information from the authorities such as the TGA and the PBAC. The explosion of the amount of information available on the internet, including advertising material, makes the responsibility of governments to provide complete, accurate, relevant and timely information in an easily accessible format even more urgent
