WELCOME FROM THE IPA PRESIDENT

Australia has won the World Cup in cricket and rugby, the Davis Cup in tennis, the Intercontinental Cup in baseball and has the President of IPA, so "what do Aussies put into their tea?" asked Robin Eastwood, the Editor-in-Chief of International Psychogeriatrics. The answer is simple: lots of space, fresh air, good food, friendly people and great holiday locations. All these are "risk factors" for success in sport and in the professions. Another IPA meeting in Australia (after the extremely successful 1995 Sydney IPA Congress) will offer to IPA members, their colleagues and families, the opportunity to experience excellent scientific material as well as the stimulating intellectual climate of this "lucky country." After the hype of the Sydney Olympics has settled, what better time to come to Australia than in February 2001, to Lorne for this IPA meeting. You will thoroughly enjoy the beauty of the Lorne area, be stimulated by the scientific rigours of the program and will have an opportunity to visit other parts of this magnificent island continent of Australia. Come by yourself, better still bring all your family and friends for a memorable visit.

Edmond Chiu AM President

WELCOME FROM THE CHAIRMAN

On behalf of the International Psychogeriatric Association, the Faculty of Psychiatry of Old Age of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists and the organising committee for this joint regional meeting on "Treatment, Care and Outcomes in Psychogeriatrics," it gives me intense pleasure to invite my colleagues from Australia and New Zealand and around the world to join us in Lorne from February 4-7, 2001. The organising committee has arranged a provocative and interesting program with what we believe will be a stimulating blend of local and international, established and up and coming speakers. There will be limited opportunities for free oral papers and extensive opportunities for poster presentations and I urge all potential registrants to consider submitting an abstract. One of life's great pleasures is to share things that you love with those who might appreciate them. Lorne is a jewel of a resort, set in the middle of Victoria's Great Ocean Road. From the ages of 10-20, my home was in Apollo Bay, 45 minutes to the west. In coming to know this area in all seasons and all weathers over the most impressionable decade of my life, I became convinced that the Otway Ranges and the Great Ocean Road form one of the most beautiful areas on our planet. Wide experience of international travel over the past 22 years has only enhanced that conviction. Whether you enjoy beautiful scenery, temperate rainforest, swimming, surfing, fishing, walking, playing golf amid tame kangaroos or just lying in the sun, you can't help but fall in love with this region. My colleagues on the organising committee and I look forward with keen anticipation to welcoming you to Lorne in February, 2001.

David Ames Meeting Chairman

LORNE

A sparkling jewel along the treasure of the Great Ocean Road, Lorne glistens with the golden sands and cool blue waters of Loutit Bay set against the lush green hinterland of the Otway rainforest. Nestled amongst the stunning panorama, Lorne offers a variety of adventure and entertainment. The active match themselves against the ocean; swimming, surfing and enjoying a host of water sports, or trekking through the maze of bushwalks, exploring the freshness of fern gullies and cascading waterfalls. Lorne also has tennis courts and an eucalypt-laden golf course on offer, so remember your racquet and clubs.

THE CUMBERLAND

The Cumberland Lorne is Victoria's largest purpose built Meeting and Leisure resort. The resort itself is located on the Great Ocean Road in the heart of Lorne, a small but extremely well known holiday destination. One of the best things about getting to Lorne is the unsurpassed drive. The Great Ocean Road is acknowledged as one of the finest coastal drives in the world and the scenery of Victoria's rugged coastline is simply breathtaking. The resort is only a short distance from Melbourne and incorporates not only superbly appointed apartments all with private spas and balconies but also the finest Meeting and recreational facilities available.
