    THE COACHING PARENT

    The Coaching Parent is giving tools to parents enabling them to reinvest their role and responsibilities, empowering their children toward autonomy and well-being.

    Resource persons:

    Claire Leduc, social worker, family therapist and author of Le Parent entraîneur - The Coaching Parent (Éditions Logiques) and Comment transmettre des valeurs essentielles à nos enfants (Éditions Publistar), Excellence Prize for Quebec Province from Canadian Association of Social Work, 1995.

    Monique Robin, social worker and family therapist, Coaching Parent group leader in the Ottawa region of the Province of Quebec.

    Presentation of the dynamics of The Coaching Parent method by Claire Leduc

    · Purpose and objectives of the workshop: proposing a method for evaluating and intervening in family situations. Guide for social workers to enhance parental abilities. Checking with workshop participants on their specific needs.

    · Laying out of the basic principles of The Coaching Parent. How the concept of value has become the method’s driving force.

    · Understanding the essential benchmarks of evaluating parental competence; health and security, affection and education.

    · Presentation of five parental styles and their subsequent effects: absent, easy-going, coaching, authoritarian and abusive parents. Using the accompanying questionnaire.

    · Brief description of the attitudes, tools and intervention techniques of The Coaching Parent.


    Applying the method using the simulated family

    Explanations concerning the elements of the method

    · Social networks.

    · Working with babies, youth, adolescents and young adults.

    · The evolution of new family models.

    · Using the model for specific problem areas: parental negligence, hyperactive children, delinquency and lack of autonomy…
