The Study on the Experiences of North Korean Women Defectors

  • I. Introduction

    In Korea, North Korean Defectors are gradually increasing. Among them the rate of North Korean Women Defectors is also gradually increasing. So the government of South Korea are just preparing for building up the education facilities which can be used for women themselves.

    We have heard that refugee women are facing many risks than refugee men. So they have special needs than men in the process of resettlement. North Korean Women Defector are also probably the same to another refugee women.

    II. Research Problems and Methodology

    This study explores the experience of North Korean Women Defector. That is, this study deals with the meanings of escape process from North Korea and resettlement into South Korea. Through phenomenological qualititive research methodology, the meanings of their experience are examined. Because there are few researches about North Korean Women Defectors. Research data are collected by interviewing with 3-4 North Korean Women Defectors in South Korea.

    III. Purposes of Research
    First, To understand the meanings of the escape and resettlement experiences by North Korean Women Defectors.
    Second, To use this research results as a guidance information in developing adjustment support program for integration into South Korea of North Korean Women Defectors.
