  • Leah Conroe-Luzius, University of the South Pacific, Fiji
  • This paper presents the results of a Needs Survey that has been written as part of the development of a Social Work Program in the Sociology Department at the University of the South Pacific. The survey has been distributed to over 100 agencies, groups, and community members in the 12 Island Nations that comprise the University of the South Pacific Community.
The Needs Survey queries the type, size and affiliation of respondent groups, the group's definition of their communities service needs, the present staffing, and future staffing needs of the groups, and the demographic and presenting problems of their service population.
The data will be analyzed for the region, and individual country. In the larger countries, specific agencies or groups will be examined. Discriptive Statistics will be reported along with the results of the statistical analysis.
The resultant information will be used to form the direction and ciriculum of the new Social Work Program at the University of the South Pacific.
