Invitation to Sponsor & Exhibit
On behalf of the International and Local Organising Committees, l take great pleasure inviting you to participate in the forthcoming Eleventh International Conference on Biological Inorganic Chemistry to be held at the Cairns Convention Centre, in Queensland, Australia on 19 - 23 July 2003. Metalloproteins consitute 50% of all known proteins and the post-genomic revolution allows new approaches to gene discovery and to fundamental metallo-biology. The field is fundamentally multi-disciplinary, bringing together common genetic, biochemical and biophysical themes applied to bacteria, plants, animals and humans. The Society of Biological Inorganic Chemistry (SBIC) is the world peak body for promoting this inter-disciplinary field. Its members are scientific professionals from hospitals, research institutes and universities engaged in research, development and commercial activities. Fundamental knowledge has led to the development of bio-inspired photonic, electronic and analytical techniques. For example, the glucose oxidase electrode developed for diabetics is the most frequently used analytical device in the world. The development of the famous platinum anti-cancer drug cis-Platin has also led to the search for new inorganic drugs for the treatment of cancer and other diseases. Radio-pharamceuticals and other imaging agents, together with bio-sensors in general, constitute another burgeoning area of development. The International Conferences on Biological Inorganic Chemistry (ICBIC) have grown exponentially in size since their inception 20 years ago. There were 1,300 delegates who attended Florence, Italy for the celebration of the 10th Conference in 2001.
