13th International Congress on Oral Pathology and Medicine
June 21 - 25 2006
13th International Congress on Oral Pathology and Medicine International Association of Oral Pathologists (IAOP) held in conjunction with the Oral Medicine Society of Australia and New Zealand (OMSANZ) and Faculty of Oral Pathology, Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (RCPA)
History of the Event and the International Association of Oral Pathologists The International Association of Oral Pathologists was established in 1976 and the first Congress was held in Gothenburg in 1981. Subsequent meetings have occurred every two years. These 12 meetings were built on the Association's foundation statement: The Association has as its major objectives the development and promotion of the practice of oral pathology and the advancement of knowledge in clinical aspects, laboratory diagnosis and research in oral pathology and also the encouragement of communication between individuals of all nations in pursuance of these objectives. These are ideals of the highest order and are reflected in the quality of the Congresses to date. The Congress has only been within the Southern Hemisphere on a single occasion and within the Asian Pacific arena on two occasions, Tokyo 1990 and Singapore 2002. The 13th Congress, to be held in Brisbane, has been under development since before the 9th Congress in Cape Town in 1998. It is a long time but we believe this approach to our specialty is what makes our Association thrive and is a clear statement of the reality of the ideals above. The IAOP covers every sector of the World and councillors represent Africa, Asia, Australasia, Europe, North America and Latin America. Subscribers to the BBOP see contributions from every part of the globe and the journals that report our research and laboratory and clinical activities reflect not only our diversity but also the depth of commitment to the science of pathology. The body of the IAOP has much cause to be proud of.
