Ms Jane Bates, Invited Keynote Speaker, United Kingdom

Jane Bates is the President of the British Medical Ultrasound Society, and currently lead sonographer-practitioner at St James's University Hospital, Leeds, United Kingdom.

Her specialty is hepatobiliary ultrasound, with particular interest in intraoperative, laparoscopic and contrast applications. She has worked in ultrasound for over twenty years and has published extensively, including books on both abdominal and gynaecological ultrasound. She also maintains a strong interest in sonographic professional and educational issues.



Prof Ron Benzie, Invited Keynote Speaker, Australia

Ron Benzie is currently the Director of Department of Perinatal Ultrasound at the Wentworth Area Health Service in Penrith NSW.


Ms Kathleen Carter, Invited Keynote Speaker, USA

Kathleen Carter has twenty four years of experience as a Vascular Technologist and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the Society for Vascular Ultrasound and Program Chair of their Annual Meeting. She has given many presentations in noninvasive vascular technology since 1987. She is the author or co-author of more than fifteen papers in the "Journal of Vascular Technology", "Journal of Vascular Surgery" and "Vascular Ultrasound Today". She has a particular interest in aortic endoluminal stent graft assessment with ultrasound.


Dr Giovanni Cerri, Invited Keynote Speaker, Brazil

Giovanni Cerri, the current President-elect of WFUMB, also hold the positions of Dean of the School of Medicine, University of São Paulo and President Hospital das Clínicas, University Hospital. Dr Cerri is Professor of Radiology and Director at the Institute of Radiology, University of São Paulo. He formerly held the positions of President at the Brazilian College of Radiology, São Paulo, Society of Radiology and FLAUS (Latin American Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology). Dr Cerri is editor of the official journal of the Brazilian College of Radiology "Radiologia Brasileira", and has published 220 scientific articles and 12 books.


Dr Jae Sung Cho - Invited Keynote Speaker, Korea

  • ASUM Asia Link - KMSU exchange speaker.

    Dr Cho is Associate Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at Yonsei University College of Medicine. He is the speaker nominated by the Korean Society of Medical Ultrasound under the annual KMSU/ASUM exchange program and is the Asia Link speaker for 2004.



  • Prof Michel Claudon, Invited Keynote Speaker, France

    Michel Claudon is Professor of Radiology and Chief of Department at the Children's Hospital and the University of Nancy. He previously held the position of President at the European Federation of the Societies for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (EFSUMB). He is currently Vice-President of the World Federation for Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology (WFUMB). Prof Claudon's fields of interest include technical advances in ultrasound, uroradiology and paediatric radiology.


    Dr Harris Finberg, Invited Keynote Speaker, USA

    Harris Finberg is Director of Diagnostic Ultrasound at Phoenix Perinatal Associates. He is Assistant Professor of Radiology at Mayo Medical School, a Fellow of the American College of Radiology and the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine, and is on the Board of the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers.


    Dr John McGahan, Invited Keynote Speaker, USA

    John McGahan is the Professor for Radiology and Director of Abdominal Imaging and Ultrasound at the University of California, Davis located in Sacramento, California. He has been author of over 200 scientific articles and has been editor of five published text books in the field of ultrasonography.


    Mr Rob McGregor, Invited Keynote Speaker, Australia

    Rob McGregor has a Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (General) and the Diploma of Medical Ultrasound (Vascular). He has held positions as a clinical sonographer, tutor and as a researcher. He is a past President of the Australian Sonographers Association and a past Chairperson of the Australasian Sonographer Accreditation Registry. Rob has acted as an advisor to the Australian Commonwealth Department of Health and Ageing on registration pathways, education and technical issues. Since 2000 Rob has turned his focus to establishing and administering the Canberra School of Sonography.


    Mr Rob Phillips, Invited Keynote Speaker, Australia

    Rob Phillips has been a cardiac sonographer for over 15yrs. He is head of the Cardiac Faculty of the Australian Institute of Ultrasound, and has been co-ordinator and faculty member of the ASUM DMU Course for over 10yrs. Rob is also on the Faculty of the International Society of Cardiovascular Ultrasound, and has spent the last 5yrs working through the University of Queensland on new methods of digital ultrasonic evaluation of cardiac function. Rob has also developed a novel Doppler ultrasound device for measurement of cardiac haemodynamics in adults and children.


    Dr Rita Teele, Invited Keynote Speaker, New Zealand

    Rita Teele has the best of two worlds, living on the South Island of New Zealand and working as a paediatric radiologist on the North Island. British by birth, Canadian by schooling, American by training, she was involved in the early development of paediatric ultrasonography. At present, her major interests are in prenatal diagnosis, and neonatal imaging.


    Ms Paula Woletz, Invited Keynote Speaker, USA

    Paula S. Woletz, MPH, RDMS, RDCS, has been a sonographer since 1982, and is director of accreditation for the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine.

    Paula received her MPH from Columbia University. She is a fellow of the AIUM, a reviewer for the Journal of Ultrasound in Medicine, and has lectured and published journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters on ultrasound.

    This is her first visit to Australia.



    A/Prof Philip Walker, Invited Keynote Speaker, Australia

    Philip Walker is an Associate Professor of Surgery in the Department of Surgery at the University of Queensland. He is a consultant vascular surgeon and the Director of the Vascular Laboratory at the Royal Brisbane Hospital. He is a founding director of Queensland Vascular Diagnostics. He currently serves as the Secretary Treasurer of the ANZSVS and is the Chairman of the Society's Vascular Ultrasound Committee. In this role he has in the past chaired the Department of Health and Ageing's Vascular Ultrasound Project Team and has served as a member of the DHA Diagnostic Imaging Services Table Coordinating and Advisory Group, the DHA Ultrasound Reference Group and the Australian Vascular Ultrasound Accreditation Board. He has had a long involvement in vascular ultrasound and in the past has convened a number of ANZSVS Vascular Imaging Symposia and ASUM Vascular Ultrasound Workshops. In addition to vascular imaging, his research and clinical interests are centered on the aetiology and management of aortic aneurysmal disease, exercise physiology in peripheral arterial disease, carotid stenosis, and infectious agents in the aetiology of atherosclerosis.

  • Nuchal Translucency Course - Thursday September 23

    This course is primarily focused at those requiring training for Fetal Medicine Foundation (FMF) accreditation. It will however be an informative program for practitioners in any directly related clinical field, including Genetic Counsellors and Midwives, and their input to discussion will be valuable and attendance is welcomed. The course will be based on the FMF course in the UK and participants will receive a copy of the CD 'The 11 - 14 weeks scan' by Nicolaides, Sebire, Snijders and Ximenes. This theoretical course is the first step to accreditation as a user of the FMF program within Australia and is open to all involved in obstetric ultrasound. Practice Improvement points are obtainable for Fellows of RANZCOG.

    CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
    Cancellations must be advised in writing to the Meeting Secretariat. Cancellations received before Friday, 23 July 2004 will receive a refund of registration fees, less an administrative charge of AUD100.00. Cancellations after this date will not be refunded. Cancelled Social Program tickets are refundable prior to Monday, 20 September 2004.

    Accommodation Information

    ICMS Travel, as the official housing bureau for the Meeting, has been able to secure discounted accommodation rates at selected hotels. Reservations need to be made before Friday, 20 August 2004. The room rates are per night and do not include breakfast. Accommodation will be allocated in order of receipt of bookings and payment. Each delegate should complete a separate accommodation form, a clear photocopy of the form is acceptable.

    ARRIVAL TIME
    Please indicate on your registration form your estimated time of arrival to the hotel. Check in time is usually between 1:00pm to 3:00pm. Should you wish to guarantee your room is ready before the hotel check in time it is recommended that you book and pay for the room for the evening prior to your arrival. Failure to advise your arrival time may mean that your room will be released.


    DEPOSIT
    To secure your reservation a deposit equivalent to one night's room tariff is required. If paying by credit card, your details will be passed onto the hotel as a guarantee. The hotel may not initially deduct a deposit payment from your credit card but may charge you full payment at the time of checkout. Bookings cannot be made until ICMS Travel receives your payment or credit card details. Room rates are in Australian Dollars and include the Australian Goods and Services Tax (GST).
