Brochures can be obtained by: Email: bernice.gennari@armc.org.au, or Write to: Dr Michael Woodward, Chair AC4R, Aged and Residential Care Services Austin and Repatriation Medical Centre, Repat Campus, Banksia St Heidelberg West, Vic. 3081. TIMETABLE FOR POLICY AND PLANNING FORUM In NSW, Geriatricians have been meeting twice yearly to discuss political issues affecting them, such as SNAP, transitional care and benchmarking. While Federal Council does address these issues, there is often little opportunity for the wider geriatric community to be involved in the discussions. This year, there will be the opportunity to discuss these and other topics, such as Aged Care in Emergency, after the Scientific Meeting. While the exact program of the three hour session is yet to be finalised, it is anticipated that the first 90 minutes will provide an opportunity for each state to present their concerns, followed by general discussion time. The session following afternoon tea will cover issues from a set agenda, with the possibility of an external speaker. While the conference website will be updated as more information becomes available, those wishing to make specific inquiries, or add items to the agenda, should contact the organiser, Dr Jeff Rowland, directly on Jeff.Rowland@swsahs.nsw.gov.au Representatives from all states are encouraged to attend, in order to promote a rich discussion of political issues affecting everyone. This has been a successful forum at a state level, and it is hoped that next year a full day session can be organised. Registration for this session is an additional $60.00 per person and should be done via the conference website.
INTERACTIVE SITE VISIT TO GAIT LABORATORY, KINGSTON CENTRE Parkinson's Disease tends to affect the elderly, but is often poorly understood by non-neurologists. This year we are offering the unique opportunity for an Interactive Site Visit to the eminent Gait Laboratory at the Geriatric Research Unit at Kingston Centre. Professor Bob Iansek, Professor of Geriatric Neurology at Monash University has offered this opportunity to explore the laboratory and how gait parameters can be measured for clinical and research purposes. In addition an interactive session will take place on Common Management Problems in Parkinson's disease. The session will cost $35.00, with transport to and from the conference venue provided, and is expected to run approximately from 1315 to 1700. There are only 30 places available, and registration is via the conference website.
