 (Sponsored by NSW Health) Dr James Bagian has extensive experience in the fields of human factors and both aviation and patient safety. He was chosen as the first Director of the Department of Veterans Affairs’ National Center for Patient Safety in 1998. A former NASA astronaut for 15 years, he flew on two Space Shuttle missions and following the 1986 Challenger space-shuttle explosion, supervised the capsule's recovery from the ocean floor and led the development of the Space Shuttle Escape System that is now in use. Dr Bagian holds a B.S. degree in mechanical engineering from Drexel University and a doctorate in medicine from Thomas Jefferson University. He is a member of the National Academy of Engineering and is on the faculty of the Uniformed Services University of Health Sciences and University of Texas Medical Branch. Dr Bagian received the American Medical Association’s 2001 Dr Nathan S. Davis Award for outstanding public service in the advancement of public health.
 (Sponsored by ACSQHC) Professor Helen Bevan is Director of Redesign for the National Health Service Modernisation Agency (England). She is a national leader of the NHS improvement movement. Her core role is to identify emerging directions and approaches to improvement and test their applicability in the NHS. The aim is to keep NHS improvement thinking fresh, relevant, full of impact and at the leading edge. Currently, Helen is leading work within the NHS to shift the main improvement focus from a series of national programs to "mainstream" capability for improvement in every local organisation and team. She is also working with the NHS's new corporate university NHSU, to establish a faculty of healthcare improvement.Helen is a visiting professor at De Montfort University. Current research interests are enabling a culture of innovation in healthcare organisations, and what the NHS can learn from mass movements in its quest to build a national improvement movement. Helen was made an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the Queens New Years Honours list in 2001 for services to healthcare.
 Brennon Dowrick is Australia's most successful male gymnast. He is a dual Olympian and dual Commonwealth Games Gold Medallist. Currently on the board of the Australian Gymnastics Federation, Brennon is also Chairperson of the AIS Athletics Commission. He uses his experiences in international competition as a basis for his entertaining and motivating speeches to corporate and government groups, often incorporating spectacular gymnastic displays on the pommel horse.
 Dr Eby, a Board Certified Family Physician with a Masters in Public Health in Planning and Administration, has worked as a physician executive for the past 9 years helping lead a Native health system to international prominence. As the Vice President for Medical Services for Southcentral Foundation at the Alaska Native Medical Center he has played a significant leadership role in this Alaska Native customer-owned integrated healthcare system's transformation based on customer centered thinking and building on the values and strengths of the Alaska Native community. Dr Eby has lived and worked in a number of locations around the world and has worked professionally particularly with indigenous health systems in their journey towards health in systems now dominated by other non-indigenous groups. He has lived and worked with Alaska Native health leaders for most of the past 14 years helping with the redesign of an entire integrated health system around the priorities, values, and wishes of the Native community while incorporating many internationally recognized best practices.
 Martin is currently working at the UK National Patient Safety Agency where he has played a lead role in the development and roll out of the national patient safety strategy in England. Prior to moving to the UK in January 2003, Martin worked in a variety of health care service delivery, management and policy roles within the Australian health care system. Most recently, this included Director of the Office of the Australian Council for Safety and Quality in Health Care(within the Australian Department of Health and Ageing). Martin has a background in behavioural sciences and social studies and has post graduate qualifications in public sector management and a graduate certificate in health economics.
 Gerry Gannon is an experienced conference MC having officiated at over 50 conferences, conventions, workshops and seminars in the past five years, his reputation grows as does his demand amongst new and existing clients. A quick wit - a legacy of his Irish background - ensures conferences are enjoyable as well as meaningful. Gerry is a member of the Meetings Industry Association of Australia (WA) and is active on its professional development committee. He is also a member of the Perth Convention Bureau and is a former Director of the Tourism Council of WA. He is also President of the Royal Flying Doctor Service (WA), Vice Chairman of the Australia-Malaysia Business Council (WA) and Vice Chairman of Access 31 Community Television in WA.
 (Sponsored by AAQHC) Dr Helfrick is the President-Elect of the International Society for Quality in Healthcare (ISQua). He has served in various capacities with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) since 1984 and for eight years was a member of its Board of Commissioners. In 1997 and 1998 he served as Chairman of the Board of the Joint Commission. Under his leadership as Chairman, several task forces were created to address important emerging issues for the Joint Commission. These included the JC Oversight Group, which developed Joint Commission International, the Accreditation Process Improvement Task Force, the Complex Organization Task Force and the Restraint Standards Task Force. Dr Helfrick also played a leading role in the development of the Joint Commission's approach to addressing sentinel events in healthcare organizations. In February 2000, Dr Helfrick stepped down from the Board of Commissioners and became Vice President of Joint Commission International and Executive Director of International Relations until January 2003.Dr Helfrick has more than 40 publications in the scientific literature and has participated extensively in clinical and laboratory research. He chaired the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons special committee on the development of Parameters of Care for a period of ten years, and in 1991 he was the recipient of a $1.5 million grant from the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research to study the dissemination of professional parameters of care. He is a Fellow of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, and in 1993 was recipient of that Association's Distinguished Service Award. In 1997 he was awarded honorary Fellowship in the Royal College of Surgeons, London, England.
 Julie McCrossin talks for a living. She is presenter of the national social issues program Life Matters on ABC Radio National which you can hear Monday to Friday from 9am. Previously she was a team leader for 5 years on the media quiz show Good News Week on Network Ten and ABC TV. Her proudest media moment was her appearance on ABC TV's Play School as a silent clown called Plain Jane. In addition to her media work, Julie regularly facilitates panel discussions at conferences and public forums, primarily in the health, welfare and community services sectors. Julie has university qualifications in the arts, education and law - and is a lay member of the NSW Medical Board.

The room rates are per night and do not include breakfast. Accommodation will be allocated in order of receipt of bookings and payment.
