The 2006 Update Day will focus on neuromuscular disorders including nerve, muscle and neuromuscular diseases. The Meeting will include keynote lectures, symposiums on movement disorders and neuropathology, workshops on multiple sclerosis, epilepsy and stroke. Other sessions will address the molecular basis of neurodegeneration and the future of neurology. Again we will present the young investigator and advanced trainee awards, as well as the EG Robertson lecture, the Leonard Cox award, and the Mervyn J. Eadie lecture. The popular neurological grand rounds will again be featured.

Please forward your application direct to the AAN Executive Officer. The Leonard Cox Award is open to members of the AAN who received their full membership during or after 1999. All submissions are due Monday, 13 February 2006. AAN James McLeod Advanced Trainee Award The AAN James McLeod Advanced Trainee Award is for work conducted during a clinical year of advanced training, and presented at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. We would like to have as many submissions as possible, ensuring that all submissions are from financial members of the AAN. The Scientific Programme Committee will select the recipient from abstracts accepted for poster or platform presentations at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. To be eligible the presenter must: Have performed the work during either two core training years or one clinical year;Be a current fi nancial affi liate in training or recently elected full member of the AAN;Be the fi rst author on the paper;Provide substantiation of eligibility for the award from the head of department at the institution in which the presenter conducted the work.AAN James Lance Young Investigator Award The AAN James Lance Young Investigator Award is for work performed during the pursuance of a higher degree in the neurosciences, and presented at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. We would like to have as many submissions as possible, ensuring that all submissions are from financial members of the AAN. The Scientific Programme Committee will select the recipient from abstracts for poster or platform presentations at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. To be eligible the investigator must: Have performed the work during pursuance of a higher degree in the neurosciences;Be the first author on the paper;Be a current financial affiliate in training or full member of the AAN;Provide substantiation of eligibility for award from the head of department at the institution in which the presenter conducted the work.Neurological Grand Rounds We invite submissions of interesting cases for presentation in the Neurological Grand Rounds. Please submit a one-page description of your case, providing sufficient information for the chairs and Scientific Programme Committee to select the cases that would provide the best education and discussion at the 2006 Annual Scientific Meeting. Leonard Cox Award The Leonard Cox Award is open to members to the AAN who have received their Full membership during or after 1999 and have produced a body of scientific work within receiving their Full membership. It is designed to recognise investigators who have contributed significantly to Neuroscience Research during early post FRACP years. The application is by submission of a curriculum vitae and a two-page description of the nature of their work, the scientific significance and the likely contribution to the field of neurology. Please note: Post to AAN Executive Officer only Australian Association of Neurologists, 145 Macquarie Street, Sydney NSW 2000
This program will provide an update on the various areas of neuromuscular disease, including disorders of the motor neuron, muscle, and peripheral nerve. The Update will be divided into three portions: a) the first, an overview of the diagnostic process of neuromuscular disease and a review of the tests used in diagnosis b) the second, an overview of the common disorders c) the third, therapies - current and future Specific topics will include: Clinical clues and approach to the diagnosis of neuromuscular disorders, Electrophysiological, genetic and pathological evaluation of neuromuscular disease, inflammatory nerve and muscle disease, neuromuscular junction disorders, genetic disorders of nerve and muscle, and mitochondrial disorders.
