CUW-UK is a coordination unit of the UNESCO endorsed International Network of Centres for Urban Drainage (IRTCUD) and Centres for Urban Water (CUW). The principal aim of the network members is to act in accordance with UNESCO mission, carry out quality research and provide support in capacity building (training and technology transfer) in integrated urban water management.

IRTCUD network operates through the centres for Cold Climate (at NTNU, Trondheim Norway and Humid Tropical and Sub-tropical (at UFRGS, Porto Alegre Brazil). IRTCUD coordination unit is located at the University of Belgrade, Serbia and Montenegro. Additionally Regional Centre for Urban Water Management in Tehran, Iran covers the region of Central and South Asia and Middle East.

IRTCUD initiated the UDM conference series and was involved in the organisation of all conferences held so far.
