Linkage and association for cognition in twin families
We are looking for QTLs influencing various aspects of cognition in a large sample of adolescent twin families. 16-year old MZ and DZ twins and their near age siblings are tested for elementary and complex cognitive tasks including IQ, reaction times, reading, and academic achievement. A 5cm genome scan has been completed for 500 twin families and linkages found for IQ on 2q and 6p, and for reading on several chromosomes. Affymetrix 100kSNP chips are currently being typed on a further 170 families and a 500k genomewide association scan is planned. Candidate genes including ASPM, microcephalin and KIAA0319, and SNPs reported by the Plomin group are being typed. Results will be reported at the meeting.
