**Early Bird Registration has been extended to Friday, 3rd August**On behalf of the Organising Committee of the 10th Scientific Meeting of the Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists to be held from 6 - 9 October, 2001 in Melbourne, Australia, we would like to extend a warm invitation to all members and fellows of the College and psychiatrists from around the world interested in the Asia-Pacific Region.
This organisation was established in the later 1970's by academic psychiatrists associated with the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California in Los Angeles. They collaborated with senior psychiatrists in Asia Pacific countries who held their first meeting in Manila in 1980. In the years since, the College has grown to a membership of more than 200 psychiatrists from 12 countries. Holding biennial scientific meetings, the College has since met in Taipei, Seoul, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Shanghai, Fukuoka, San Diego, and Seoul. The Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists is an Association of Psychiatrists from countries bordering the Pacific with membership open to psychiatrists in any area of practice.
The purpose of the College is to provide a forum for communication between psychiatrists in the range of countries around the Pacific, and this is particularly facilitated by a meeting held each two years. The meetings provide an opportunity for the presentations of scientific papers, discussions on important issues in psychiatry, and consideration of the variety of clinical, social, political and ethical issues that tax psychiatrists in clinical practice, administration and conducting teaching and research in the Asian and Pacific countries. The Pacific Rim College offers an excellent opportunity to interact with the leaders of Psychiatry in the Asia Pacific Region. The organisation is highly respected in the region and many of the major leaders in psychiatry in China including Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and Australasia are fellows, as are a large group of psychiatrists in North America.
This meeting will also be a great opportunity to share knowledge and experience with other psychiatrists who will be attending from the Pacific Rim and other countries around the world. The success of this meeting as always, is dependent on the participation and contribution of members and fellows of the College. With this in mind, we invite you to participate in the occasion, the learning and the fellowship of the 10th PRCP and experience the friendship and Australian hospitality of the "Garden State" of Victoria in Melbourne in the Spring of 2001.
We look forward to welcoming you.
